while creating the digipak i was torn between using the image on the left, or the image on the right.
The purpose of the digipak is to promote the artist and create a link between the products so audience members can easily identify the artist. So i done some research on how artists use edited images and their face to create an effect but still remain recognisable.
Disclosure - Electronic
Disclosure are from a similar music genre as the song we decided to use, therefore it was interesting to see how they used synergy to link all their products and still remain recognisable to the audience.
In the image above, you can see how they all the products are linked together and clearly belong to the artist. Although they used an effect, which is similar to what i wanted to do, instead of just putting an edited face on the front cover, they used a photo with their faces. Usually artists use a current photo on their first album but disclosure used a baby photo and a current photo in their promotional package. As they are producers and not exactly artist going against the convention doesn't really seem to be a problem, because the effect on the image is carried out in a video, posters, album cover and inside panels.
From looking at this i wanted to create something similar as the song we chose isn't actually an artist but is in fact a producer. So instead of using the image with the completely edited face, i decided to go with half edited half human.
