Here is a previous student ancillary work in which i will be analysing in terms of the conventions of a digipak. The use of colour in the front and back colour is appropriate as the mixed dark colours fits in with the genre of electronic. Many electronic album covers have funky type colours within their background. There are font consistency shown here as the font of "I AM ELECTROPOP" from the front matches the spine writing/font, however there are spelling mistakes in which the student wrote "Electrop" instead of "Electropop". The artist picture is presented in the middle of the album and is at its correct size, the artist is easy to notice and you can tell straight away who the main singer/producer is. The name of the artist is presented big and bold at the top which sells the artist. The barcode on the back cover is not overly huge and the track list is presented with a font that is readable and clear.
Here is the inside of this students digipak. The picture from the inside is presented neatly (the artist) and the graphics of the purple line effect swirling around the artist looks nice and the colour is appropriate as it matches the colours presented in the front cover, however the artist should be presented a bit higher and not squashed towards the bottom. Despite all the strong positives, the track list is also presented on the inside cover and this is not needed. The track list is already presented in the outside so the audience would want to see something different and not a repeat. The writing looks squashed and is also not neatly presented. The CD is not properly made and the measurements are not accurate (it is too small), the four circles coming out of the CD also doesn't make sense.
The use of colour is consistent within the two products and this is important so that the audience automatically knows what artist is being promoted. The front cover of the digipak is shown in the advertisement, promoting the album and also did not make the mistake of accidentally showing the spine of the digipak. There are justification errors in this advertisement in which the scanner icon should be presented a bit higher and not right in the corner, there are big spaces within the top left corner and the record label is not in line with the other labels.
As a result, I would give this work an 8/10 in which there could of been improvements on the advertisement. The genre for my song is electronic also as I could take some positives from this piece of work which I may contextualise. Also to not make the same mistake that this student made in terms of the disadvantage side of this work.
