Independent research: Analysis of brand identities in cross media products.

In this post i will be analysing synergy in the branding of Labrinth across different media products. The media products will include the music video for the song (Let the sun shine) and the album cover (Electronic Earth).

Here is the album cover of the song in which it is shown that the artist   is the picture that is the largest. This shows the importance of Labrinth of being the lead singer. He is wearing big sunglasses with a reflection of different colours, maybe linking to the genre of the song which is electronic. The background is the sky shown to be a mixed colour of blue and green with the bottom half showing darkness, whilst the back cover is shown a city at night time with still showing glimpses of blue and green colours. The font of the title looks like a maze.

Now that the album cover is analysed, the music video single is next. There were key features in the video that could be compared to the album cover such as the sunglasses and colour similarity. Lets start off with the colour similarity in which in the video, i noticed that the background colour whilst Labrinth was singing, kept changing in which compared to the album cover, there are rainbows of colours in the reflection of his sunglasses.

The same sunglasses shown in the album cover is the same as the one presented in the video. The shot type (close up) is also similar ...

Another thing I came across was the idea of the font title looking like a "maze" in the album cover. Similarly in the music video, we are shown that Labrinth is trapped in a room with limited sunlight, this however could just be a coincidence but it definitely links between the two.

This research was very useful as the genre of the song that we have chosen is an electronic song, which is the same as the song I have just analysed. This will help me create a Digipak later on in which has the same theme in the music video itself.
