The research I am going to do here is going to be related to the artist of my chosen song, SBTRKT. We both share the same genre and style since my chosen song is one of his which therefore will help me take notes of the color scheme used, style and presentation.
It is shown that the artist is the one with the most presence. The picture is big and shown with clarity, this will help the audience recognize the artist as soon as it is looked at. The iconic mask of the artist is present in which is important also for helping the audience recognize the producer, SBTRKT. I will also use this technique in which the iconic "hairstyle" of the artist will be present in the front cover of the digipak.
The font chosen for the artist name links to the genre of electronic as it looks funky and stylish, it is also written in bold white for clarity. It is however written on the back of the digipak rather than the front which is unusual but it makes the digipak stand out from the rest since normally it is presented on the front. I will be following the simple convention of the artists name shown on the front of the digipak. The writing font for the track list is simple, clear but a smaller size than the artist name. The simple font is presented so that the audience can read it with ease, if it was funky like the artists name then it wouldn't be readable. It is important that the audience can read the track list without struggle. The track list must be smaller than the artists name since the artists name is like a main title and shouldn't be obstructed. The artist is being sold and promoted.
The record label is shown on both the disk and on the back cover. It is very small and is presented in the corner on the back page in which I took note of, it is very unlikely that the record label is bigger than that size. The importance of the record label is minimal.
The CD design is just a repeat of what is on the digipak , but in a clear simple way, a white background is used, the font is normal and the track list is shown, there is nothing funky here.
The color scheme on the digipak is restricted to minimal use. I can see that there are dark colors involved, the majority of the background is presented in black with shades of grey circles. The use of dark colors fits the genre of electronic since the artist is a DJ, and normally his events take place in nightclubs where it is dark. The colors used are restricted to about 3-4 colors and also they are appropriate, as it looks neat and not overused. There are glimpses of yellow, blue and brown but they are part of the iconic mask, it would of been inappropriate if the colors were scattered around everywhere.
I will be doing a brief analysis of the magazine advert relating to this digipak soon.
