We planned to have the scarf as the main form synergy so that it would be easily recognisable to any fans the artist may have. Another form of synergy that you can see is consistent in the video, and the ancillary work is the artists wild hair style which is eye striking. We decided this would be a good addition to the forms of synergy used as it would give the fans another easy way to recognise the artist. Also because of the influences in the genre, most of the artists have some underground, hipster type artist image that all their fans know about. For example:
Reasons for some synergy
We have SBTRKT that uses the mask as one of his main images, and we have James Blake who has these pictures and album covers where his face is blurred and makes his work recognisable to his fans. He also uses this blurring effect in one of his videos:
And for these reasons, I think that the use of Synergy in the Ancillary products is effective because they highlight the two major links we aimed to have with the video.
We decided to use the scarf as a form of synergy becausewe thought that it would appeal to our target audience because of the underground influences. The post dub-step and electronic influences in our genre made us think that we could take advantage of the artists wild hair and have that as another way they can recognise the arist.
In the video, digipak and advert the artists hair is the same, making this decision a very effective one because it gives everyone a strong visual connection betwwen the three products.
