Ancillary Planning - Do's and Don'ts

Whilst planning my mock up for my ancillary product, there are some considerations that will need to take place. These are the things that I will need to include and things that I will avoid in order to produce the perfect digipak/advertisement.

Do's
  • Use color effectively, which means only use a maximum of three colors. They also need to go well together so it looks nice.
  • Include a barcode, record company logo and copyright information. I am reminded that the teacher will be reading what I write in the copyright section, so I need to make sure that what im writing is appropriate.
  • Make sure that the photos that I use are good quality (e.g. not stretched) and are not out of focus.
  • Use a font that is appropriate for our genre and that it is clear for the audience to see. Maximum of two fonts is recommended so that it doesn't look messy.
Don't
  • Remember not to stretch photos so that they fit the panel as this will make the picture look blurry and low quality.
  • Never place text over the artists face as the audience won't be able to see the artist and this looks unprofessional.
  • Remember not to put bizarre filters and effects as it may look weird.
  • Do not use fonts just because I like them, I need to make sure that they link to the genre of our song.
Here below are some examples that follow the conventions above.
