Andrew Goodwin

Andrew Goodwin discovered that music videos aren't all the same. They can be used for different reasons, and he stated three different ways in which they can do so:

  • Illustration- This is where the video tells the story of he lyric.
This song is called "Nightmare on Figg st" and the video and the lyrics both illustrate images that could be related to a nightmare. "Leave em in the streets with his shoelaces missing the socks up off his feet"

  • Amplification- occurs when the videos introduce new meanings that do not contradict with the lyrics but add layers of meaning
This video adds more meaning to the song, it gives more detail to what the artist is saying and helps give visuals of what is being said.

  • Disjuncture- this is when there is little connection between the lyric and video or where the video contradicts the lyric.
In this video, there are various times where in the video there will be written text which contradicts the words that the artist is saying, by changing some of the words therefore altering its meaning.
